Update on Bri:)

At Bri's last eye Dr appt she was soo excited to see her "eye Dr" as she says! (I prep her before the appointment with "sit very very still while he looks in your eyes...blah blah :)). We are going to him every 3 weeks now. So we are called into "the room" and I am holding the back of Bri's head while she rests her chin on the "machine" we call it...and he gets a great look at her right eye! So he shifts to the left eye and she did not want to sit still for this one! So he looks, she moves back, we get her to rest her chin, I hold her head and he looks again! She has decided not to sit through the left eye exam for a long period of time which is fine! But what he saw was in her right eye she still has inflammation but it is moderate, and with a BRIEF exam on her left eye it now worse then the right eye....and so the eye drops will continue every hour while she is awake! And I cannot tell you how wonderful she is doing with the eye drops every hour! Even when we are out for the day she will tip her head back at the boys baseball games and get the eye drops, in the car after shopping...she will tip her head in her carseat and get the eye drops! So we are VERY VERY accurate with the Doctors orders for every single hour :). Even when Alyssa, Alex and Grandma and Papa are watching her...she will let you give her the eye drops :) WHEWWW! Now on to the Methotrexate shots...this is the hardest! Daddy is sooooo good with her shots! She obviously knows the shots are coming...EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT!!! So usually after I get home from work we give her the shot, sometimes Eric will have Alyssa hold Bri too if I'm working late! But when she doesn't I hold her arms and her poor little body down and Eric prepares the shot, alcohol rub her leg, and he holds down the leg that is not getting the injection and he gives the shot! WoW! This is sooo hard!! I cannnnoootttt stand needles even though through every pregnancy you get ####### constantly! But to have to do that to your own child...and have her squirm and say "daddy no..." is just very difficult!!!!!! She is awake now with the injections and says "daddy no " through the whole ordeal! It makes me sad even to type this...but I know she will get use to it...and one day she will sit brave and strong with every injection! And as for now...pleasseee continue praying now for her eyes that the swelling will come down...Uveitis as far as I have read is not cureable just like arthritis...but I am just hoping and praying that at her next eye exam her eyes will look better! I DO NOT want to put her on another medication....at all!!!!! And if her next eye exam is good...well if her eyes are still inflammed then we will see her Rheumatologist to see what the next step is. Whew...that's done!
Move onto the fun stuff :), Bri's joints as far as her fingers, toes, ankles, elbow, knees, wrists have shown no signs of flare ups which is great!! She is riding her scooter, learning to ride a tricycle, and just having so much fun with her friends! And I want to say thank you to all the moms in our moms group that have been sooo helpful through all of this with Bri! She has enjoyed the zoo, hay rides, pumpkin pickin, playdates galore! And just to see Bri active puts a huge smile on our faces! It has almost been one year now that her JRA was discovered...and what a journey it has been!!! I am soooooo thankful to Eric my loving husband for working so hard so I can stay home with Bri and not put her in daycare!!!! He works 6 days a week and it has been such a tough industry to work in! And just knowing that Brianna doesn't have to rely on a daycare worker to give her her eye drops every hour on the hour is a major relief!!!! Thank you Eric...Hon for your hard work!!! Getting Bri healthy is our #1 priority...our family comes first :)....

  1. Stacy, I am so sorry to hear about Bri's eyes. Its hard enough to deal with the arthritis and now this. I will be praying for your family and I hope that Bri will have a quick recovery from this.

Also I am pretty sure that Uveitis can go into remission just like the arthritis. Its again finding the right combo of meds. Their are a few families on my sidebar on my blog that are dealing with this right now as well. Im sure they would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Oh, I would like to add your blog to my sidebar Jra Families if you don't mind.

    Hang in there!
